Level uneven subfloors across multiple levels and install new hardwood flooring throughout the main living areas and stair landings.
Background
The Chen family’s Los Angeles home was modern in design but had one major issue that affected daily living. Over time, settling had caused noticeable unevenness between rooms and across multiple levels of the house. Floors sloped subtly in some areas and more dramatically in others, creating discomfort, squeaks, and an inconsistent look.
The family wanted to replace their aging flooring with hardwood, but they knew that installing new floors without addressing the underlying problem would only make things worse. They contacted Skyline Flooring after learning about our experience with complex subfloor leveling projects throughout California.
Initial Evaluation and Planning
During the initial site visit, our team performed a comprehensive evaluation of the home. Using laser levels and moisture meters, we identified several problem areas:
Height differences of up to one inch between adjacent rooms
Subfloor deflection near stair landings
Uneven concrete slab sections on the lower level
Previous patchwork repairs that caused visible transitions
We explained to the Chens that successful hardwood installation would depend on a proper leveling strategy tailored to each area of the home.
Custom stair nosings and transition pieces were fabricated to match the flooring. Baseboards were reinstalled and adjusted to accommodate the new floor height, creating a clean, finished appearance.
After installation, the floors were cleaned and inspected to ensure uniformity and quality across all areas.
